If you haven't been checking on St Arnold's blog from time to time. (you're given a pass, they've been posting light of late) you might have missed the news that a bad guy has appeared.
Not surprisingly (to most) it appears that the distributors are making noises against the movement to allow direct to consumer microbrew sales in Texas.
IF the movement manages to gain steam (or, more importantly, if the bill finds a sponsor) then expect the distributors to pile up money and a massive PR campaign against the bill. I imagine that "morality" will be a big selling point, children drinking beer in drunken orgies and all. Conveniently ignoring the fact that the distributors would sell the same alcohol to the same orgies would the law allow it. Nevermind that the "direct to consumer" sales would be limited to the breweries themselves.
KTRK Political reporter Miya Shay provides us this picture which shows just how ingrained into the political culture the wholesalers and distributors are.
Brock and Co. have an uphill fight, they are out-moneyed and out gunned in terms of resources. If you're an elected official and reading this, consider contacting Brock and Co. and sponsor some legislation.
If you're someone who LIKES the idea of increased microbrewery options in Texas, then contact your State Representatives, Senators, etc. and inform them that they should consider carrying the water for this bill.
You're taste buds will thank you.
